Your Donation Will Help Us to Continue Training Priests to Celebrate the Traditional Mass

A Great Success

Among the recent successes of the Latin Mass Society has been the series of priests’ training conferences that we have organised up and down the country to teach clergy how to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass. These have only been made possible because of the generous financial support of our members. We are calling on your support once again so that we can continue with this vital work. Please will you help by sending us a donation?

A Unique Record

Since 2007, we have run six conferences which over 100 priests have attended. Many have returned in subsequent years to tackle the more complex demands of the different forms of Sung Mass. The vast majority of these priests are now regularly celebrating Mass in the Extraordinary Form. No other organisation in England and Wales is providing this kind of regular, systematic training of priests in the traditional liturgy, or in such numbers. Your financial support will help us to train even more priests.

Praise from the Vatican

Our conferences have drawn praise from clergy taking part and from Vatican officials, such as Mgr Guido Pozzo of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, who described them as ‘an opportune and necessary initiative’. We are clearly providing a much needed service to the Church.

Renewal of the Priesthood

Many priests who have attended our conferences have commented that, in celebrating the Traditional Mass, week by week, their appreciation of the liturgy and their lives as priests have deepened. This has ramifications for the restoration of the Church beyond just the Mass, and makes it all the more important that we continue this work. Your donation will make that possible.

Further Training Conferences Needed

There is still a great deal of work to do: interest in the Extraordinary Form is increasing, especially amongst younger clergy. We are therefore planning further residential training conferences.

Our next will take place at Buckfast Abbey (picture, left) from 3 to 6 May 2011. As well as training in celebrating the Mass, there will be tuition in the Traditional Rites of Baptism and Matrimony – an essential provision for a traditional movement that is drawing in growing numbers of young families.

Your Support is Essential

However, organising training conferences is expensive. In 2010, it cost us around £20,000, which is why we are appealing to your generosity to support the continuation of this vitally important work for the future of the Traditional Mass in this country. The economic recession has badly affected the LMS’s earnings from investments, meaning that we currently receive only a third of our previous income. Yet there are priests wanting to learn the usus antiquior in order to introduce it into their parishes. We should not turn them away.

Every Penny Counts!

Donations of £1000 or more will make an enormous contribution to ensuring that these priests receive the training they need from experienced priest-tutors. Contributions of £500 or £250 will help us defray the enormous costs of organising our much-praised training conferences. Gifts of £100 or £50 are also very welcome and enable us to teach more priests how to celebrate the Traditional Mass so that they can introduce it in their parishes. Whatever you can afford to give to this important initiative, thank you very much indeed.
