Missa Cantata for the feast of SS John Fisher and Thomas More

On Saturday 9th July at 10am there will be a Traditional Latin Mass (Missa Cantata) at Rochester Cathedral in the crypt chapel of St Ithamar, for the joint feast of St John Fisher and St Thomas More in the traditional liturgical calendar.

St John Fisher was the bishop of Rochester for 31 years. Both saints died as martyrs under Henry VIII.

The Mass will be offered by Fr Thomas Lynch, parish priest of Strood. Refreshments and networking after Mass.

Rev Fr Gwilym Evans FSSP - First Masses of Thanksgiving

On Saturday 18th June, Archbishop Joseph Haas of Vaduz (Liechtenstein) ordained Gwilym Evans to the Priesthood.

Fr Evans FSSP, who is originally from Wales, was supported by the LMS during his time at the FSSP Wigratzbad Seminary and the LMS chairman Dr Joseph Shaw and many others from the UK attended the ordination in Bavaria. He has been on many traditional events in England over the years, particularly the Latin Mass Society's walking pilgrimage to Walsingham: and will do so again this year.

To Chartres or not to Chartres?

This has proved a difficult question!  While COVID restrictions continue to be eased, it is still the case that unvaccinated pilgrims would not be permitted to travel to France without a "compelling" reason.  The organisers of the pilgrimage have therefore decided to repeat the very successful pilgrimage from Ramsgate to Aylesford Priory which was organised a little quietly last year.  So, please join in!

Worldwide petition to Pope Francis

Members and friends are strongly encouraged to sign the worldwide petition to Pope Francis that has been launched at preservethelatinmass.org

The text is as follows. Just follow the link at the bottom to fill in your details.

Dear Pope Francis,

We, the undersigned, fervently appeal to Your Holiness for the preservation of the Traditional Latin Mass (usus antiquior) and the accompanying Sacraments.

Latin Mass Society Statement on Confirmations

The Latin Mass Society regrets to report that Cardinal Vincent Nichols has made the decision that the Sacrament of Confirmation is not to be celebrated according to the 1962 liturgical books in the Archdiocese of Westminster. The annual celebration which has for many years been organised by the Latin Mass Society at St James’ Spanish Place, at which candidates were confirmed by an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese—and on one occasion, by Cardinal Raymond Burke—will accordingly not take place this year, or until this decision is reversed.
